| You are able to create
and download a backup of the files, data and configuration
on your dedicated server at anytime.
With the exception of Velocity Server, servers also
includes a hardware based RAID disk mirroring
solution which will protect your data in the event
of a disk failure.
However, disk mirroring will not allow you to
recover a file accidentally deleted by a user
and making regular backups yourself and restoring
them when required can be time consuming. With
our managed backup solution, your critical data
is securely backed up every night, whilst restoration
in the event of accidental data loss or hardware
failure is quick and hassle free.

Data from your server is copied to large
disk arrays on our backup servers in the
early hours of the morning every day. Only
files created or changed since the previous
night's backup must be copied and because
hard disk transfer rates are faster than
those of magnetic tapes, the load placed
on your machine by data backup is minimised
and concentrated in the period when the
load imposed by its other tasks will likely
by least. |
With the backup copy of your data synchronised,
the entire disk image is copied to DLT tapes using
our robotic tape library without placing any load
on your machine. Once written, tapes are stored
off site for maximum protection.
The disk based copy means your most recent backup
is instantly accessible enabling us to complete
full and partial restores quickly, whilst the
tape based backups allow versions of files from
weeks ago to be obtained.
Data Recovery
Should your server suffer a hardware failure, the
hardware will be instantly replaced under our SLA
commitment and all data restored from the most recent
backup free of charge. Without the managed backup
option the replacement hardware would be supplied
in the original configuration and you would be responsible
for uploading the data and non default settings.
Specific files and data can also be recovered
should they be deleted in error, one such partial
restore per month is included free of charge.
A partial restore is defined as a request to recover
one list of files from a single point in time.
Should additional partial recoveries be required
in the same month they are charged at £40 each.
Pricing & Availability
Daily tape backup capacity may be added to any of
our dedicated servers in 20 gigabyte
blocks. You only pay for the quantity of data protected,
so if your server has a 40 gigabyte disk, but only
10 gigabytes are in use, you will require one 20
gigabyte backup block.

You can specify the data backup option when ordering
a new server or add it to an existing server at
any time. There is no set-up fee or minimum contract,
you can cancel data backups at any time.
